Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Reaches 4 Million Accounts

Square Enix has announced that it’s popular massive multiplayer online game Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has reached 4 million accounts.

Square Enix announced the news on February 26, 2015 via a press release, which read as follows:

Square Enix Inc., today announced that the total number of registered accounts for FINAL FANTASY® XIV: A REALM REBORN®—not including those from free trial— now exceeds 4 million globally.”

The press release also detailed a celebratory promotion that allows players that already own the game, yet do not have active accounts, to login for free. This campaign runs from Friday, February 27, 2015 (12:00 A.M. PST) to Monday, March 9, 2015 (12:00 A.M. PST).

My Opinion:

In the current landscape of monthly subscription MMORPGs, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is clearly one of the most successful in the genre. Four million subscribers equates to a hefty chunk of change for the Japanese developer, and I’m happy to see them thrive.
