I’m sure everyone just loves the thought of a grappling with a creepy woman with pallid skin and long hair in a hand to hand tussle, right? No? That’s just too bad, as Killer Instinct’s next character slated for release is going to force you to do just that… oh, and she has a long bladed weapon to top (or lop) things off.
Everyone’s seen Sadako from The Ring, or at least some horror movie where the Japanese inspired ghost girl makes an appearance. She’s got a kind of ragdoll way of moving, unless she’s rushing toward you at an inhuman speed or crawling in a “broken bones” manner. She’s always bending and twisting in odd ways for seemingly no reason. She’s got long hair that obscures her face and alarming eyes, usually due to their coloration. She’s generally sporting a long white dress and has skin almost as white, or gray.
That pretty much sum’s up Hisako’s look. She’s the newest character to join the fray in Killer Instinct and easily the scariest on the roster. As if we weren’t dying of fear, the fine folks at Iron Galaxy Studios (developers of Killer Instinct Season Two) gave her a Naginata! Just perfect for cutting someone up after the jump scare that is her very entrance animation to a stage.
Hisako was revealed just yesterday at PAX East with a walkthrough showcasing just how the character works, guided by Iron Galaxy’s Adam Heart and Isaac Torres. She appears to be a very technical combatant, slow moving but with long range and counters that would have even the Killer Instinct announcer himself short of breath. Steel yourself before viewing the creepiness that is Hisako below.
On top of bringing the horror, this new face brings in a new mechanic with her own “Wrath Meter” which fills when she’s not swinging around her weapon and makes her moves QUITE a bit more efficient.
Keep in mind, the horror doesn’t stop at her appearance. Her moves are meant to terrify, check out her “Possession” grab at 9:50. Though Torres and Heart didn’t reveal Hisako’s release plans in the video, a very recent tweet by Mad Catz dictates that her release will be at the end of the month.
My Opinion:
My skin is crawling in the best of ways. I’ll itemize things for you folks: 1. I absolutely love horror movies, especially Japanese ones. They creep me out in the way that has me jumping and yelling but they don’t haunt me for weeks. 2. I love Killer Instinct and competitive fighting games in general. I suck, but I love watching the masters at work. 3. I know I said I suck, but Hisako sounds like she’s a solid character. I don’t know what the meta is like, but I can’t wait to see Hisako in action at tournaments like EVO or anywhere else. 4. Music! Each character has a theme made by the highly talented Mick Gordon. If there’s a new character, there’s a new track to add to my iPod. All of the win.
