Mario is celebrating his 30th anniversary this September with the release of Mario Maker for Wii U.
During today’s Nintendo Direct, President Satoru Iwata announced that the release of the eagerly anticipated title is to coincide with the 30-year anniversary of the platforming plumber. On Mario’s long wonderful history, Iwata remarked:
“It’s been 30 years since the release of Super Mario Bros. in 1985,” said Nintendo President Satoru Iwata. “I couldn’t be happier that Mario continues to be active across a wide range of games. Thanks in no small part to the love you all have for Mario. I’m extremely thankful.”
Mario Maker is a dream come true for gamers to finally, and legally, create their own Mario levels and share them with their friends. Whether you prefer 8-bit or 2.5D Mario, Nintendo has you covered.
This is exciting because we can finally build our own levels. On our own terms. My only hope is that the antagonizing sun from Super Mario Bros. 3 returns.
