New Inky, Smashy and Woolly Amiibo Announced

Need more amiibo to scratch that itch? Nintendo is happy to oblige with two new sets of amiibo: one based on Yoshi’s Woolly World and the other based on Splatoon, as well as more amiibo for Super Smash Bros for Wii U and for the 3DS.

In today’s Nintendo Direct, the two new sets were shown off, as well as what they do within the game. The three Yoshi amiibo will allow players to control a second Yoshi in the game. The Yoshi can also become an egg and projectile that the other Yoshi can use to reach past obstacles. The stranger thing about this is that the Yoshi amiibo are actually made of wool. That’s right; we now get soft woolly amiibo.

Also announced are amiibo specifically for the upcoming Splatoon. The three amiibo announced are for the boy and girl characters in the game as well as a squid. The amiibo will provide players with added challenges that they can complete. They will not only be available separately but in a combination pack altogether.

Finally, the fifth and sixth waves of Super Smash Bros. amiibo were revealed. The fifth wave will have Dark Pit and Palutena and will be released in July. The sixth amiibo wave will include Bowser Jr., Dr. Mario, Olimar, Zero Suit Samus and Ganondorf. That wave will arrive in September.

My Opinion:

I did not get super excited about the Splatoon amiibo. While they look nice, I doubt that many people will be picking them up. I was, however, stoked to see the Yoshi amiibo. I mean, it is literally a plushie that you can play with in game! What is more awesomely adorable than that? The Super Smash Bros. amiibo are also nice, but nothing can match this excitement for Yoshi amiibo. It is so fricking cute! In a manly way, of course.
