The May 2015 free games lineup for PlayStation Plus subscribers has been unveiled! Yay free stuff!
Six new games are being offered for free starting May 5th. First up is Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition, a 2D Metroidvania style brawler with Mexican folklore-influenced visuals and story. The game features drop-in, drop-out co-op and the Super Turbo Championship Edition version of the game bundles the downloadable content with the main game. This game will be available for PlayStation 4 owners.
Ether One is the next free game for PS4 owners and is a new release on PlayStation. This first-person adventure game has you fixing the memory of an older women suffering from dementia by solving complex puzzles.
The next game is an indie darling from several years ago. The Unfinished Swan is about a young boy chasing after a swan in a painting. The gameplay consists of uncovering the world around you by flinging paint and solving puzzles to progress further. The game will be free on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita. The Unfinished Swan is also PlayStation Move compatible for the PS3 and PS4 versions.
The next free game is an endless runner called Race the Sun. You control a spacecraft and as long as you are in the sunlight, your craft will maintain speed. However, you’ll lose speed if you fall into shadows. PS4, PS3, and Vita owners will have access to this title.
Next up is Hohokum, an art game in which you control a long serpent-like creature. There are no real objectives and the game is meant to be explored and experienced rather than completed. You can pick this game up for your PS4, PS3, and Vita.
Finally, we have Murasaki Baby. This strange game is a side-scrolling puzzle-platformer with psychological horror elements. The main protagonist Baby, a malformed girl who carries a purple heart-shaped balloon, progresses through the game by you holding her hand via the Vita touchscreen and walking her along through a world filled with childhood fantasies and fears. This game will be available for Vita owners.
All these games will be available until June 2nd, when a new batch of free games will be available.
The batch of free games this month isn’t the strongest but it’s decent. The Unfinished Swan and Murasaki Baby are great games to offer for free as I’m sure there’s a lot of people who haven’t tried them and Guacamelee is a great game that everyone should own. The other games seem less exciting to get and a game like Hohokum is something that I can see a lot of people just not enjoying. The lineup is still pretty diverse and that’s something I appreciate about PlayStation Plus. The service allows people to play games they normally wouldn’t.
