Nintendo has reported its financial results for the fiscal year, and things are looking up. The company reported a net income of $350 million, its best yearly result since 2011.
In terms of sales, the Wii U sold 3.36 million units, just short of its target of 3.8 million. Global sales since launch are at 9.54 million.
Meanwhile, the Nintendo 3DS family of systems sold 8.73 million units, also just shy of its 10 million unit target. 3DS software sales reached 6.27 million on the backs of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.
This is surely good news for Nintendo investors and fans. Now they just need to continue this trend.
I’m not that surprised, really. Between amiibo and Smash Bros., Nintendo has had a pretty great year. It’s not like they’ve really been ‘on the brink’ anyway. Yes, the Wii U hasn’t sold as well as hoped, but it’s no Atari Jaguar.
