Details of the Batgirl DLC, that was originally announced a couple of months ago due to complaints about the $40 season pass, was revealed by Entertainment Weekly. The DLC pack will be set before the events of Arkham Asylum and will see Batgirl teaming up with Robin to save her father, Commissioner Gordon, from the Joker.
The DLC will be made by WB Montreal, the developer behind the prequel, Batman: Arkham Origins. It takes place in a brand new area called ‘Seagate Amusement Park’, which is an amusement park built above an oil rig that is rigged to blow. According to Justin Vazquez, Design Producer, the reason for this change of environment was due to the desire “to recreate the feeling of being trapped in a bizarre and unique open environment playing a game of cat and mouse with the Joker”.
Batgirl’s combat style is also different from Batman’s. Instead of her using pure strength, she can also use her hacking abilities to take down opponents, control objects and solve puzzles.“Hacking is really what separates her from the other characters. It’s a gameplay mechanic with which the player can create situations for Batgirl to really shine,” Vazquez says. “Our intention was that Batgirl should be less powerful than Batman, but that Batgirl plus hacking could give her opportunities do things that not even Batman can pull off.”
A Matter of Family will also have the Dual Play system that Arkham Knight had, allowing players to switch between Batgirl and Robin when in combat. It will also include side quests, collectables left by Joker and, of course, Easter eggs.
Batgirl: A Matter of Family releases July 14th for Arkham Knight season-pass holders or it can be purchased separately on July 21th for $6.99.
Looks like it’ll be amazing! I really enjoyed Arkham Knight and can’t wait to get my hands on this DLC pack. I’m interested in how much influence they will take from A KIlling Joke as it’s a great graphic novel! I also can’t wait to see Harley in a costume that resembles Batman: The Animated Series which is still amazing even today!
