Overwatch launches May 24th on the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Anyone who preorders the game will gain early entry into the open beta starting May 3rd and will be able to invite a friend to join in on the fun. Then from May 5th to May 9th, the open beta can be accessed by anyone. For Xbox One owners, a Xbox Live Gold Membership is required. PlayStation Plus is not required for PS4 players, but will be at launch.
While any progression made during the open beta will not carry over to the final release, all 21 characters and every map available at launch will be playable. To hear Blizzard speak on the open beta directly, watch the developer update video below.
I really like the trend of open beta’s which have been popping up recently, especially since demos seem to be a thing of the past. Overwatch is the the type of game I have some interest in, but isn’t usually the gaming genre I gravitate towards. The open beta will give me a chance to play and possibly sell me on picking up the game when it releases in May.
