The recent trend of turning unexpected games into movies is continuing, this time with a fruity twist. Yes, Fruit Ninja, the popular mobile game is set to be adapted for the silver screen. The news comes by way of The Hollywood Reporter with the movie being developed as a live action family comedy. Why you might ask?
The fact that Fruit Ninja is the second highest selling iOS game of all time, with over a billion downloads might have something to do with it.
First there was the news of Tetris getting the film treatment and now Fruit Ninja. Of all the games that could be adapted for films, those two are definitely bizarre choices. It seems like Hollywood is focusing on properties with well-known name recognition and massive popularity. I could be going bananas myself, but I would think actual characters or a compelling story would be better ingredients to latch on to.
