Have you been in a state of ponder since 2006 , wondering — just when — you will get another Prey game? Well, good news one might be on the horizon.
Links to both Prey2.com and Prey3.com have been updated and now redirect to an inaccessible Facebook page. Further, fansite Alien Noire recently revealed that an announcement is set to be made June 14th, during E3 (though this date appears to be wrong — because if a Prey 2 announcement is made at E3 it would be during their press conference on the 12th).
Following last year’s E3, Bethesda said they would only do another press conference if it made sense. Other than more Fallout 4 DLC and Dishonored 2, we don’t know of any other games that will be showcased. Therefore, it’s plausible a Prey 2 announcement could be one of the unannounced games Bethesda plan on unveiling.
Prey 2 was once in development at Bethesda after they acquired the rights to the game in 2009. However, on October 30, 2014, during PAX Australia, Bethesda Softworks vice-president Pete Hines confirmed that Prey 2 has subsequently been canceled.
“it was a game we believed in, but we never felt that it got to where it needed to be – we never saw a path to success if we finished it. It wasn’t up to our quality standard, and we decided to cancel it. It’s no longer in development. That wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s one that won’t surprise many folks given that we hadn’t been talking about it. Human Head Studios is no longer working on it. It’s a franchise we still believe we can do something with — we just need to see what that something is, “ Hines said at the time.
Bethesda is scheduled to host its E3 press conference on June 12th. As mentioned above, Bethesda have been tight-lipped about their second ever conference, but they did release a teaser image containing references to Fallout, Dishonored and the Elder Scrolls.
Do I want another Prey game? Not really. But I also didn’t think I wanted a modern DOOM, but boy was I wrong on that one (it’s awesome). Bethesda essentially only publish great games (at least as of late), and therefore I have no doubt if another Prey game is on the horizon, it will be up to snuff.
