In an era of gaming when so many big budget titles have switched to giant open worlds for exploration, it is important to make those worlds worth exploring. In the latest trailer for Mafia III, 2K explains why the world of Mafia III is just that.
Mafia III takes place in New Bordeaux, a re-imagined version of New Orleans. New Bordeaux features many of the elements that spring to mind when thinking of New Orleans, from the bayous and jazz music to the French Ward and bustling night life. The city is comprised of nine unique districts with their own distinctive feel.
Each district has two criminal rackets, allowing for plenty of action. As the story progresses, new characters emerge throughout different sections of New Bordeaux giving players even more of a reason to explore the city. Watch the trailer below and look for the game October 7th when it launches on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
I do like the setting for Mafia III and it is looking like New Bordeaux will play a big part in making the game a unique experience. Adding little details can do wonders for creating a fully realized world. It would be cool if you could dump bodies into the swamp and let the alligators take care of them or stop in a restaurant to get a Po’ boy sandwich or bowl of gumbo.
