Capcom sales and profits fall

Again.Capcom has released its financial results for three month period spanning April 1st to June 30th, reporting yet another decline in both sales and profits.

Sales for the period were reported at $104 million, which is a 24 percent decline when compared to the same period in 2015. Operating income also took a plummet, the result was Capcom taking a 6.9 million loss.

The operating income loss was pinned on the foreign exchange losses, which were caused by the rapidly rising yen. Something Nintendo cited as an issue in its latest financial report.

Capcom further highlighted the increase in development as a contributing factor to the decline in profits.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice was said to be selling as planned. However, Capcom failed to provide any details of performance on its recently released Umbrella Corps. This combined with the fact that the game reviewed horribly, and that no one was playing it, confirms that it likely fell short of sales expectations.

Looking towards the future, Capcom emphasized the potential of Resident Evil 7, citing the buzz it received during E3 2016 and the record it set as the most downloaded single-player PS4 demo in the first week of its release for North America. It was downloaded over 2 million times, despite only being available to PlayStation Plus subscribers.

My Opinion:

Seeing Capcom struggle financially is quite frustrating when you see them sitting on oodles of great IP that they fail to do anything with. Like Dino Crisis. Where is my new Dino Crisis game?

  1. Having tried out the Umbrella Corps demo when it was available, it actually wasn’t bad. It was kinda of surreal to play a multiplayer game in the Spencer Mansion. The novelty started to wear out after about an hour, though.

They really should’ve known Resident Evil fans didn’t want a game like that, and no one from the CoD/Battlefield camp was gonna give it a try either.
