What’s the best part of owning a PlayStation 4? Decking it (and yourself) with compatible accessories. Oh yeah. Today, Sony upped its accessory game.
Following the woeful PlayStation Meeting, Sony sent a press release out that revealed that new Dualshock 4 is exactly what leaked when people got their paws on PS4 Slim early, as well as a redesigned camera, and a new headset.
First off, the new controller. As mentioned above, this leaked prior to the event. If you didn’t see that leak all you need to know is the design brings a front-facing lightbar (allowing light to come through at the top of the touchpad) and a USB communication support (in addition to Bluetooth). It will run at $60 and will be available at first only in the black, red, and blue versions.
Up to bat next is the newly redesigned PlayStation Camera. Don’t worry the changes are nothing more than visual. It now boasts a cylindrical design and a stand that lets you adjust the angle of the camera. Otherwise it is the same ol’ slab of plastic. This will also sell at $60.
Lastly, we have the new wireless headset called the Platinum Wireless headset. This will not replace the existing $99 Gold headset, but rather is described as a “high-end” headset featuring “premium construction and materials for extra comfort, as well as enhanced highly positional 7.1 virtual surround sound powered by SIE’s proprietary 3D audio technology.” It also has a hidden microphone, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and is compatible with PlayStation VR. The headset is set to arrive sometime this holiday period, and will cost $160.
Spoilers: before looking at this image, be warned, it’s a lot of sexy:
And that is it for the accessory show. Stay classy MONGERS.
My Opinion:
I’m not really digging the new front lightbar on the camera, especially because it spoils me toasty stickers game. The camera looks much better, less cheap, but too bad the new look doesn’t make it any less dreadful to use. Lastly, the headset I just want to curl up with on the couch and watch George Lopez with. The moment my current headset breaks, I’m buying three.
