Resident Evil 7 was briefly removed from the U.S. version of the Xbox Store, but recently returned with the added option to pre-order a Deluxe Edition. This new listing also revealed the purpose of at least one mysterious bonus coin shown recently by Capcom.
Firstly, for those of you unaware, Capcom revealed images of several in-game bonuses, some of which include the Resident Evil franchise’s signature health items, along with a set of strange coins. Each pack seems to have a unique coin of different colors and sizes. These small items received no explanation, and many assumed they pointed to micro-transactions or some manner of merchant system inside the story.
However, Xbox.com has now dispelled these rumors by adding a new description to the Deluxe Edition’s digital Recovery Set bonus:
Includes the following:
– Supply Box containing Herbs, a First Aid Med and a Strong First Aid Med Use the Supply Box item to add the contents to your inventory. The box can only be used once.
– Defense Coin
Keep this in your inventory to get a slight defense boost.
– Madhouse difficulty level unlock
Unlocks the insanely difficult Madhouse mode, which normally only becomes available after completing the game.
And there you have it! The function of the other coins still remain a mystery, but this one boosts your defense stat so long as it rests in your inventory. One would assume that the others improve various stats too, though that remains to be seen.
My Opinion:
This reminds me a bit of Jim’s lucky coin from Resident Evil: Outbreak, though I’m not sure how useful it will be. Still, it’ll be interesting to see what the other coins do, and whether or not someone will go to the trouble of obtaining them all.
