Guerrrilla Games’ PlayStation 4 exclusive, Horizon: Zero Dawn, the Nintendo Switch console, and the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild; all became available for purchase last week.
According to a sales report obtained from EuroGamer, Horizon beat out Zelda: BOTW for the top spot in sales. This was likely due to the overwhelming number of PS4 systems already sitting in people’s living rooms compared to the brand new console.
With this news, Horizon has officially become Sony’s best selling new franchise, which was previously held by the much maligned No Man’s Sky from Hello Games. Zelda: BOTW was released on both the Switch and the previous Nintendo console, the Wii U. Out of all sold copies of Zelda: BOTW, 78% of them were for the Switch and 22% were for the Wii U.
The rest of the top 10 for software sales went like this:
- Horizon: Zero Dawn
- Zelda: Breath of the Wild
I am thrilled with the success for both Horizon and Zelda: BOTW. While I have yet to play Zelda: BOTW, Horizon on the other hand is exceeding every expectation I had for it. I’m very happy to hear that Sony thinks of Horizon as a franchise and hope we see many more for years to come. I’m also constantly shocked to see Grand Theft Auto V and Rocket League on these top 10 lists. Both games are great and their longevity is amazing.
