Netflix continues to develop a steady stream of content for its ubiquitous streaming service and the company’s latest project is one of special interest to gamers.
Netflix is developing an English-language drama series based on “The Witcher Saga” from Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. “The Witcher Saga” spans eight novels and story collections, with the popular series most notably adapted into a video game franchise from developer CD Projekt Red. Sapkowski will serve as a creative consultant and had this to say about the news.
“I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing. I’m excited about our efforts together as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”
My Opinion:
I like this pickup by Netflix a lot. There aren’t a ton of epic fantasy series on TV, and The Witcher Saga seems to offer ample opportunity to deliver something different to Netflix’s already robust library. I have The Witcher 3 among the many games in my backlog to start, so I’m not entirely familiar with the universe besides the basics. From internet chatter I’ve read, it seems like Mads Mikkelsen is an early favorite for the role of Geralt among gamers. He would definitely get me to check out the series.

I’m very excited to see how this goes. I’m a big fan of the Witcher games and have started to dabble in the books. I know there was an old Polish Witcher tv series, but haven’t seen any of that (surprise).
