Xbox One Set to Become More Powerful Without the Kinect

Along with the recent news about the plan to give consumers the option to buy an Xbox One without a Kinect, Microsoft is now talking to publishers about improving the graphical prowess of their system. The Xbox One sporting nifty 1080p graphics might be just around the corner thanks to Microsoft cutting away the Kinect.

Apparently, 10% of the Xbox One’s graphical resources are currently being partitioned for use by the Kinect and apps. Without the Kinect, that power can be freed up so that the GPU can put more bulk power behind the graphics instead of Kinect-based functions like searching for voice commands and gestures.

These talks have likely risen due to the fact that the Xbox One has been performing on a lesser tier than the PlayStation 4 since their November release. Multiplatform titles have seen better performance, in terms of resolution and framerate, on the PS4 than on the Xbox One. Microsoft seems poised to paramount on their most current back track and try to make something good out of it to even out the playing field.

My Opinion:

I don’t think this is a bad decision. I know a lot of people were approving of Microsoft’s decision to keep the Kinect but to this writer, it was a bad move. Not everyone wants to move with their games, and that extra $100 that the Xbox One carried due to the Kinect was surely a turn-off to a good deal of consumers. Now that the Kinect has been dropped, I may actually pick the system up sooner rather than later. It’s now on par with the cost of the PS4 and not hefting a peripheral that I would never use, which makes it justifiable to me. All of this comes at a great time as well because I am horribly excited for the coming release of Sunset Overdrive.
