Mario Kart 8 Sells Over 1.2 Million in Opening Weekend

Nintendo has confirmed that between May 29 (when the game was released in Japan) and June 1st, Mario Kart 8 sold over 1.2 million units.

This means that Mario Kart 8 is already the 7th best selling Wii U game to date, just behind The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD at 1.22 million.

Nintendo has also revealed that the Mario Kart series has sold over 100 million units, led by the incredible 35.53 million units for Mario Kart Wii.

We’ll see what else Nintendo has up its sleeves at E3 next week.

My Opinion:

This isn’t really surprising, but it’s great new for the Big N! With more heavyweight titles coming this year, 2014 should easily be Wii U’s best year so far. And considering the lifespan of major Nintendo titles, Mario Kart 8 will probably end up being one of the top two or three best selling Wii U games when all is said and done.
