Square Enix announced a newKingdom Hearts compilation for PlayStation 3. The box set comes with both Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix and Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix and will be called Kingdom Hearts Starter Pack HD 1.5+2.5 Remix. It will include most of the games in the Kingdom Hearts franchise.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix was released last year for PlayStation 3 and it had HD versions of Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, and the cinematics of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.

Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix will be released later this year for PlayStation 3 and will include Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep Final Mix, and the cinematics of Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded.

The first Kingdom Hearts was released in 2002 for PlayStation 2 with a combination of Disney characters and Final Fantasy characters. It instantly grew a fanbase due to its story, gameplay, and its unique characters first introduced in Kingdom Hearts. The much anticipated Kingdom Hearts III was finally announced at E3 last year. Fans of the franchise and newcomers will have something to play as they wait for Kingdom Hearts III.

Kingdom Hearts Starter Pack HD 1.5+2.5 Remix will be released on October 2nd in Japan. Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix will be released on December 5th for PlayStation 3 in North America. No word yet, if any, on whether or not Kingdom Hearts Starter Pack HD 1.5+2.5 will be released in North America.

My Opinion:

I played Kingdom Hearts Final Mix HD and despite the fact that there were some aspects that are painfully dated, the first Kingdom Hearts game was a lot of fun. While I did play a bit of Kingdom Hearts II, I never got the chance to complete the intro section. So having Kingdom Hearts II coming to PlayStation 3 makes me excited. I really do wish it wouldn’t come out in the middle of the busy gaming season though.
