The Geekend Update: 7/25/14

Weekends are meant strictly for gaming; at least that’s what we think. Here is where you can find out all of our crazy plans for the upcoming weekend!

Courtney Osborn, Founder & Editor in Chief:

This weekend I plan to play LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.  I got it for like $4 or $5 off of the PSN sale going on right now.  I am hoping that I end up enjoying it because I’ve never played a LEGO game.  Maybe it’ll be the start of a new adventure?  Other than that I may play some Destiny or Mario Kart 8.

Lou Contaldi, Executive Editor:

This weekend I’m getting some personal time with the Wii U — I feel like its been ages since I’ve turned the console on. Maybe some Wooden Sen’SeY here, some Mario Kart there. I’ll keep you all in the loop. Make sure to keep an eye on my Twitter to see if we can jump into some multiplayer.

By the way, I know Destiny is happening. I’m trying to keep away from it. Don’t want anything spoiling the actual release, including the Beta.

Myles Farrington, Senior Editor:

I have to work on Saturday, beyond that my weekend is likely still going to be a lot of Destiny… someone do the event on Saturday at 2 and tell me what it is.

Jesse Webster, Senior Writer:

Going to play as much Destiny as I can before the Beta ends, but Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate has taken control of my gaming time. I’ve done all the “Single Player” Stuff Destiny have but haven’t reach the Beta Cap yet. I did play a few PvP, but to me so far, it’s nothing all that special. I have been playing a lot of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, I didn’t like how my first character was going, so I started over and now my new character is better than the original character. I do have a few 3DS demos to play like Etrian Odyssey and Bravely Default to play. So, right now it’s the same as it was last weekend. Destiny and Monster Hunter.

Aaron Dobbe, Associate Writer:

Unfortunately, I’m probably not going to have a whole lot of time for gaming this weekend, but when I get the chance, I’ll probably be playing Persona 3 FES or Gravity Rush.

Andrew Lee, Associate Writer:

Continuing my adventures with the Straw Hat crew in One Piece Unlimited World Red.

Audrey Lips, Associate Writer:

I will be taking a nice, long relaxing 3 day weekend. I’ll be playing Curse of Naxxramas for the majority if the weekend, trying to beat the disgusting Arachnid Wing bosses (who are actually proving a challenge to me). Keep an eye out for my review on Curse of Naxxramas, as I’ll be writing it this weekend!

Benjamin Luthi, Associate Writer:

This has been a rough week at work, so I’ll be playing some violent games to vent my aggression. A lot of DayZ, some TMNT: Out of the Sewer, and some Mario Kart 8 (although, we all know Mario Kart 8 can add stress, so I might have to go sparingly on that one).

Chad Waller, Associate Writer:

Spot of Halo 4 tonight (sober this time as I spent last night getting drunk and don’t want to appear like I have a problem), perhaps a bit more EDF2025 because that game is all of the fun, and maybe a bit of South Park: The Stick of Truth to cap it all off.

Darius Purse, Associate Writer:

I’m going to try and put some more time into The Last of Us.  I really need to finish that game.  Also maybe play some more Tearaway on the Vita.

Darwin Leuba, Associate Writer:

I’m in San Francisco visiting family, so I’ll be working on my eating game. I’ll also be attempting to interview different game developers in the area.

Dustin LaRoe, Associate Writer:

I’ll be trying to hit the level cap in the Destiny Beta so I can try out the other classes. My Titan is a punching powerhouse already, and I want to see what it’s like to try the other special moves.

Harry Loizides, Associate Writer:

I will be working on getting some Gold medals for Siesta Fiesta; if interested you can check my review here.

Landon Luthi, Associate Writer:

I finally started playing Shovel Knight a couple of days ago, and I am already behind on sleep by about 10 hours.  I was accused of being a nostalgia whore yesterday, and my accuser is quite right.  (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!)  Shovel Knight is my new favorite pixelated indie game right now, because it is so much like Mega Man.  I will continue to play this through the entire weekend on my 3DS while I am out fishing and camping.

Patrick Garrity, Associate Writer:

Laying low this weekend gaming wise. If time permits gonna jump online with Injustice.

Ryan Latuso, Associate Writer:

I’ll be soaking up that Destiny beta while I can. Other than that I will spend some time with Bravely Default and FFX Remaster.

Scott Deisner, Associate Writer:

If I’m not roaming the gorgeous, open scapes of Destiny — seriously, the most beautiful beta I’ve ever seen — or joining some friends to strategically win or lose in the challenges of StarCraft 2, I’ll happily be writing.  It’s great to be apart of this team, and I look forward to helping in any way I can!

Steven Shearer, Associate Writer:

Like most people I will be playing the Destiny beta! Other than that, I’m not too sure what I will do afterwards, possible cry at the fact that I can’t play it until release day.

Tyler Bartlemus, Associate Writer:

Even though I will mainly be busy at work this weekend, when I get some free time, I am going to be playing some Fire Emblem: Awakening. I have just started it on my brand new 3DS, and I have found it surprisingly fun. If I feel up to it, I may also take some time to work on my PVP skills in the Destiny Beta.

What games are you playing this weekend?
