Shadow Realms is a 4v1 story driven action RPG. The game will have four players battling against a fifth player controlled enemy. Due to the co-op nature of the game, no two battles will be the same. The story is about people from around the world have awoken a power known as “Modern Heroes of Earth” and have to battle against an evil force known as the “Shadow Legions”.
The game will be in an episodic structure like Telltale’s The Walking Dead. BioWare promises that new “episodes” will be release regularly. There is an off-screen gameplay footage that you can watch that was captured by IGN.
Some of the key features BioWare is promising are that the episodic structure will have players create their own choices and each episode will end on a cliffhanger, much like a TV show. It will have a modern fantasy feel to it as you will travel around Paris and the Shadow Legions’ realm of Embra. BioWare promises that you can build traps, have deep character customization, and change the environment.
While there isn’t a release date yet, Shadow Realms will be for the PC. In the mean time though, BioWare is holding sign ups for the closed alpha.
Between Shadow Realms and Evolve, I think that there will be more games featuring 4v1 multiplayer in the future. While I was hoping for something different, it’s good to see BioWare creating a new IP. I wasn’t really impressed with the gameplay footage, but considering this is still an early stage of the game’s development, that could change.
