Moments ago, Nintendo concluded its Nintendo Direct revolving around Bayonetta 2. There is a slew of information about the game that we sifted through just for you!
Yusuke Hashimoto, Director of PlatinumGames Inc., and Akiko Kuroda, Producer of PlatinumGames Inc., were the two hosts of the Nintendo Direct. The two characterized the game as “non-stop climax action game”. To elaborate on this, they mentioned that this is a “feeling of exhilaration”, where “tension builds and tension releases” and where “the controls will meld with your mind”.
The presentation then went over who Bayonetta is, as well as quickly showing some other characters in the game. In addition, they discussed the story-line. Bayonetta heads to Inferno where she tries to rescue her best friend, Jeanne, who was sent there while trying to protect her. Through the adventures, Bayonetta must fight her enemies, which include angels and demons.
Bayonetta’s combat is a variety of attack moves, with numerous combinations of the buttons on the controller. If you repeatedly press buttons, you can form combos and powerful moves. In addition, you can slow down time, called Witch Time, where you can inflict major damage to your opponents! Umbran Climax, another special attack, will enhance demon attacks on a wide area. The more combos, the higher the score. There are scores of items that can be attached to Bayonetta, compounding the amount of variety for players.
Story Mode is broken down into chapters, with various stages. In addition to standard battles, there are also aerial, underwater, and on-vehicle battles.
Halos, the game’s currency, can be used to purchase new equipment, costumes, and skills. The previously announced costumes (Peach, Link, Samus) were showcased, along with a new one – Fox McCloud! The new costume gives Bayonetta a tail and ears, and makes her guns lock-on, just like in the various Star Fox games.
The new online mode, Tag Climax, was discussed in more detail. In this two-player mode, each character has a unique style of gameplay. In addition to Jeanne and Bayonetta as playable characters, Rodin, known as the weapons dealer and proprietor of the Gates of Hell, has just been revealed. Players can also change the costumes to better characterize the character they want to play. A small demo was played showcasing Rodin as well as Bayonetta in this new mode.
Nintendo Direct confirmed the release date as October 24, 2014 for North America. The physical copy of Bayonetta 2 (along with Bayonetta) will be $59.99, while the eShop price is $59.98.
Below are some other screen shots from the Nintendo Direct. Enjoy!
My Opinion:
It’s great that more information was given about this highly anticipated game! Bayonetta 2 looks to be more epic than many of us imagine, and much more customizable than I thought. The excitement is building and I can’t wait to see the finished product!
