August is notorious for signaling the end of summer, meaning everyone [of age] is heading back to school. This was also a great month, if slow, for gamers, due to awesome games coming out around this time. Sony has released its best selling list for August 2014 among the PlayStation platforms.
For the PlayStation 4, many gamers went to hell with Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls Ultimate Evil Edition, as it was the best selling game. Another type of hell, The Last of Us: Remastered was second, followed by fellow PlayStation exclusive inFAMOUS: First Light. EA stole the next two spots with Madden NFL 15 and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare. Surgeon Simulator: A&E Anniversary Edition, Pure Pool, Rogue Legacy, Battlefield 4 and Trials Fusion round out the top ten.
For the PlayStation 3, Diablo 3 came in second to the almighty Minecraft. Zombies took the third spot on the list with Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare. Japanese games also fared well, as Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, One Piece Pirate Warriors 2 and Dragonball Z: Battle of Z placed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. The remaining four places are Resident Evil Revelations, Tales of Graces f, Madden NFL 15 and Darksiders II.
For the PlayStation Vita, Japanese games also fared well as Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment took the top spot and Dragonball Z: Battle of Z took third place. Vita owners also cannot get enough of Kratos as God of War Collection scored second for the month. Rogue Legacy and Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster took fourth and fifth place respectively.
Final Fantasy also did well when it came to PlayStation classics. Final Fantasy VII was the best selling classic, while Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy VI were third, fourth and fifth. Second was Persona 3.
My Opinion:
I expected Diablo 3 to do well and, on the home console side of things, I am not surprised. It is nice to see that people still love The Last of Us: Remastered and inFAMOUS: Second Son as well as several JRPGs. I am a little surprised that Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment scored so high on the list, although I am having much fun playing it and it shows how many SAO fans are out there. What games did you pick up in August? What will September hold? (SPOILER ALERT: Minecraft will be #1, while Destiny will be #2)
