EA Sports is set to release the latest free update for its MMA fighting game EA Sports UFC. Coming soon to owners of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One title, the biggest edition to the update is the addition of two new fighters. UFC Middleweight Tim Kennedy and UFC Welterweight Gunnar Nelson will now be playable fighters on the roster. The timing for their arrival in the game couldn’t be more fitting, as both fighters have been in the MMA headlines recently. Tim Kennedy just lost a fight to Yoel Romero at UFC 178 which ended in controversial fashion. Gunnar Nelson headlined his first UFC main event against Rick Story at UFC Fight Night 53. In addition to increasing the roster depth, the update will also feature new gameplay improvements and animations. For instance, certain fighters will now have the ability to attempt a guillotine choke when being taken down.
New animations will show fatigued kicks for weakened combatants and more takedown variety based on timing are included in the latest update as well. Fight fans looking forward to the upcoming showdown between Nick Diaz and Anderson Silva can now replicate the fight themselves. Nick Diaz will now be a playable fighter in the Middleweight division. Mixed Martial Arts is one of my favorite sports to watch and I’m a big UFC fan. The sport itself is very hard to re-create in a videogame, finding the right balance between fun gameplay and accurately representing the many facets of MMA is a difficult task. When EA Sports UFC was released back in June it received solid reviews, but many gamers felt the game could stand to improve in a lot of areas. It is good to see EA continuing to update the game with free content, months after the title has been released. Hopefully for their next shot at a UFC game they take all the feedback and deliver an even more complete MMA experience.
