Despite the rumors, Master Chief will be the playable protagonists in Halo 5: Guardians.
Frank O’Connor, the Franchise Development Director at 343 Industries cleared the murky waters. While Agent Locke will play a big role in the next numbered installment, Master Chief will still have center stage.
“Chief is the primary character and hero,” O’Connor writes on NeoGAF.
Rumors spurred after Mike Colter, voice actor of Agent Locke, sat down for an interview with X-One Magazine.
“You’re basically going to be playing a game with me as the primary character,” Colter told the publication. 343 Industries has hinted at having the mysterious spartan as another playable character, but Master Chief will be the focus.
While Halo 5: Guardians is still a ways out, Halo: The Master Chief Collection comes out in a little less than a month.
This isn’t all that surprising. Even with the rumors, it seemed pretty obvious that Master Chief would be reprising his role as the protagonists. Bungie tried getting rid of Master Chief with Halo: Reach, and it didn’t sell nearly as well.
