Sony Sells 13.5 Million PS4’s

In its second quarter financials report for this fiscal year, Sony has just revealed up-to-date sales figures for the PlayStation 4. Sales for the company’s newest home console are back on the rise after slowing down following launch.

The console has officially sold 13.5 million units worldwide after selling 3.3 million in the second quarter. The gaming unit is one of the only bright spots on Sony’s financials with sales up 74 percent, resulting in the division’s current operating income for this year to hit $196.5 million.

However, Sony’s overall financials continue to look bleak, with the company reporting an operating loss of $771.5 million.

My Opinion:

Although it comes as no surprise to see that Sony continues to operate at a loss, it is nice to see that the sales of the PS4 are not slowing down. However, they need to make sure they don’t fall into a winner’s slumber and let the Xbox One catch up as Microsoft is actively running some great deals to incentivise buyers.
