Destiny Sequel Already In the Works

Destiny has generated 9.5 million registered users, where they average three hours of gameplay a day. Because of this dedicated fanbase, a sequel is already announced to be in development.

In an earnings call today, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg announced that, “Work has begun on future expansions as well as on our next full game release.”

This comes as no surprise since Destiny is one of the best selling games of the year and had one of the top ten video game launches of all time. In the third quarter alone, revenues reached more than $500 million.

Destiny’s DLC The Dark Below is scheduled for release on December 9th, and will include new bounties, five additional bounty slots, and new weapons and armor, just to name a few.

My Opinion:

Destiny seems like the most divisive game in recent history. Some describe it as, “The worst game I can’t stop playing.” It’s true, no one can stop playing, all you have to do is look at the ridiculous stats for how much each plays each day. Sometimes all you need is addictive loot collecting and good mechanics and that is enough (see: Boderlands 2, and Freedom Wars). I know Myles “The Destiny Demigod” Farrington loves it.
