Indie Developer Yacht Club Games has announced that Shovel Knight is headed to the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita in 2015.
Shovel Knight is a side-scrolling adventure game with an 8-bit aesthetic that harkens back to classic NES games like Mega Man, Super Mario Bros. 3, and CastleVania. It was originally released on Nintendo Wii U and PC on June 26th, 2014 to almost universal acclaim. MONG’s own Lou Contaldi gave it a 9.4 out of 10 in his review.
Yacht Club Games has also announced a number of new features for the port, including Cross-Save functionality, Twitch integration, and maybe most notably, the addition of an 8-bit style Kratos from the God of War series into the game. Kratos’ role in the game isn’t specified, but let’s hope he’s playable!
My Opinion:
A PlayStation version of Shovel Knight has been rumored for quite some time, so it’s great to see it come to fruition. I already own the game on the Wii U and concur with Lou on his review. It’s a fantastic game and anyone that enjoys a retro game done truly right should give it a go. I just may have to buy it again to get those trophies…
