During the PlayStation Experience keynote, Square Enix’s Game Producer, Shinji Hashimoto, began his segment talking about how Square Enix and PlayStation have been together for 20 years. While he was talking, the logo of Final Fantasy VII appeared on the screen behind him. It seemed that he was going to finally grant the wishes of gamers all over, that have waited for nearly ten years; a remake of Final Fantasy VII for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
However, this was not the case. Square Enix has revealed that Final Fantasy VII will come to the PlayStation 4, but it will be a port of the PC version. They released a trailer of the game and if you happen to be at the PlayStation Experience event, you can even play the game.
Final Fantasy VII will come to PlayStation 4 in Spring 2015.
I’m not that pleased with this decision to release a port you can get elsewhere and say it’s completely new. Fans have waited far too long for a proper remake and I know that this is not what they want. I may not be a fan of the game, but I know the frustration.
Jesse Webster is a Senior Writer at MONG and knows how messed up this is. I’m sorry Final Fantasy VII fans. You can find him on Twitter.
