Sony has sold over 18.5 million PS4’s!

Sony has announced that they have sold over 18.5 million PlayStation 4’s!

The announcement was made by PlayStation Japan, and translated by Gematsu. According to PlayStation Japan, Sony had sold 4.1 million PS4’s during the holiday season (defined by Sony as from November 24th to January 4th).

Following this announcement, Sony’s CEO Kazuo Hirai spoke about the PlayStation 4 and the future of gaming.

“This is a remarkable success for this next generation console, and, actually, exceeding the rate of adoption of any other PlayStation platform [to date].” Hirai continued, “PlayStation 4 continues to attract our valued users while providing the best place to play, and together with our third party developers and publishers, including a remarkable group of independent game developers, we will continue to provide the best entertainment available, while delivering Sony signature wow to our valued customers,”.

The number of PS4’s sold was not the only figure that PlayStation Japan revealed, as they also stated that PS+ currently has 10.9 million subscribers as of January 2nd.

This also means that Sony has met their target for the PS4, as last year they stated that they would like to sell 17 million consoles by the end of this financial year (which ends March 31st). Their goal has now been smashed and we are still a couple of months away for that ending date, meaning that it is likely that they will sell around 20 million units by then.

My Opinion:

Wow! These figures are incredible. I am amazed by the number of PS4’s sold – that is a load of consoles for it only being on sale for 14 months! The PS4 just keeps getting stronger and stronger and I can’t wait to see it grow even more!
