Phantom Dust Re-Imagining Changing Hands

It’s never good when a project hits a snag as large as the original developer being ousted from the development process. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what’s happened when it comes to Darkside Games being shooed away from the recently announced Phantom Dust re-imagining.

However bad that news might sound, it could be A LOT worse. According to some investigative research done by Game Informer, the project is far from dead. Microsoft has cut their ties with Darkside, but they will be taking the helm of the project into their own hands.

A company representative from Microsoft had this to say:

“Microsoft partnered with Darkside Game Studios in the development of ‘Phantom Dust,’ but our working relationship has now ended. We have great respect for their studio and their work in the industry. While we do not have anything new to share on ‘Phantom Dust’ at this time, we can confirm that development of the title continues. We look forward to sharing more details on the game as we get closer to release.”

The re-imagining of Phantom Dust was announced at last year’s E3 conference and was quite the surprise. Not much has been mentioned about the title save for it being a re-imagining and not a sequel or a play-by-play remake.

My Opinion:

I am SO happy that this game is still alive! As I’ve said many times before, Phantom Dust is the only foreseeable reason that I will shell out the cash to pick up an Xbox One. It is easily the most exciting title that I’ve seen slated for the console short of Smite, and yes, I’m well aware that I can obtain that for PC. I can’t wait for this and hopefully there’s not too rough of a schism between Darkside and Microsoft.
