A Titanfall sequel is officially in the works, and we know it’ll be released on multiple platforms.
Vince Zampella, founder and CEO of Respawn, has confirmed that the development studio is currently working on a sequel to last year’s multiplayer-only shooter Titanfall. He stated that it will be released as a multi-platform title, which will bring the franchise to the PlayStation 4.
“I guess EA announced a sequel, so I could play coy and pretend I don’t know anything about it, or… yeah. So we’re working on a sequel. No official name yet, but we’re working on that. That’s the main focus but we’re starting up a second team and doing some smaller stuff too. Small, exploratory, taking it slow! It’ll be multiplatform.”
Titanfall released in March of 2014 and was exclusive to Xbox consoles, as well as being released on PC. Respawn COO Dusty Welch noted that the decision to limit the game to one console ecosystem was always strictly a business move. It’s something that Respawn would have liked to be different though, mainly due to the PlayStation 4’s very strong sales success since launch.
We don’t know anything more about the Titanfall sequel at this time, but MONG will keep you updated as more information becomes available. Feel free to check out what we thought about the original Titanfall.
My Opinion:
This is hardly news as we all knew that Titanfall would go multi-platform for its next game. The PS4 is simply too successful, and Respawn wants their game to get out to as many players as possible. The real news will come when we find out if the sequel will be all multiplayer, or if they’ll include some sort of single player campaign this time. I am personally not someone who plays much competitive multiplayer, so I’ll only check out future Titanfall games if they do feature single player content.
Ryan Amirault is an Associate Writer for MONG and is pretty terrible at competitive multiplayer shooters. Follow him on Twitter and watch his streams on MONGplays!
Anyone here still playing Titanfall? I figure some got back into it with the free season pass DLC that was given out recently. It feels like the game didn’t have long-term staying power with most gamers, but I am sure there’s a good hardcore player base still enjoying it. 🙂
