While it may seem hard to wait for Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens, the wait will become easier for Star Wars: Battlefront (2015).
DICE’s Star Wars: Battlefront was rumored to be released on November 17 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, which EA confirmed earlier today, along with what we can expect to see. While the game will not contain space battles, the game will allow players to play as Darth Vader, Boba Fett and more, maybe including Han Solo, the rogue himself. Battlefront will also include iconic vehicles such as the Millennium Falcon. The game will also have a focus on the original trilogy, so no Baby Anakin will be in the game. For now, at least, since Battlefront will support plenty of post-release content.
Star Wars: Battlefront will not feature a full-fledged story campaign, but instead a sequence of missions that can be played alone or co-op, both online and split-screen. Patrick Bach, the General Manager of DICE, said, “The game is first and foremost a multiplayer game. Battlefront was a multiplayer game. That’s the game we wanted to create — to recreate the battles of the Original Trilogy.” After the game releases, there will be free DLC released bridging the gap between Star Wars Episodes 6 and 7 featuring the Battle of Jakku, which is referenced in the latest Star Wars Episode 7 trailer.
Lastly, speaking of trailers, here is the official trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront.
Star Wars: Battlefront will release on November 17 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. For those who use EA Access, they will be able to play it early on Xbox One, although how early is unclear. The free DLC with the Battle of Jakku will be released on December 8, with those who preorder getting the DLC a week early on December 1.
Wow. Just, wow. I was surprised that EA released so much information today with E3 coming up so soon. My reservations include the fact EA doesn’t have the best track record with online games as of late, and this game NEEDS to be perfect when it releases. I am excited to see what DICE has up their sleeves, especially with free DLC and what they have chosen what to include and what to leave out. They have a good head thus far; I just hope the game works great at launch. Live long and prosper.
