The announcement trailer, which can be seen below, shows off some of the giant creatures that you will come up against in this open-world environment. Players are presented with the dilemma of trying to kill or tame the beasts. In addition to the trailer, we are given a brief description of the game:
As a man or woman stranded naked, freezing and starving on the shores of a mysterious island called ARK, use your skill and cunning to kill or tame & ride the leviathan dinosaurs and other primeval creatures roaming the land. Hunt, harvest resources, craft items, grow crops, research technologies, and build shelters to withstand the elements, while teaming up with or preying upon hundreds of other players to survive, dominate… and escape!
ARK: Survival Evolved is due to hit Steam Early Access in June with both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions to follow at a later date.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Jesse Rapczak — founder and art director for Studio Wildcard — provided some additional information on the upcoming PS4 version. The big news from the post is that ARK: Survival Evolved will be compatible with Project Morpheus. If riding a dinosaur in first-person via VR peripheral doesn’t excite you enough, we also learned that there will be about 60 distinct species in the game at release. Each creature will have its own behaviours that will also operate outside the players’ influences.
We will be sure to bring you more information on this promising MMO as it becomes available but, for now, be sure to check out the initial trailer:
You had me hooked at dinosaurs! I have always wanted an open-world Jurassic Park game, and Ark: Survival Evolved might finally be the game that delivers. The implementation of Project Morpheus only heightens my curiosity. I will be following this game closely over the coming months.
