Divinity: Original Sin 2 Coming To Kickstarter

Developer Larian Studios has announced Divinity: Original Sin II. The game will seek funding from Kickstarter, following in its predecessor’s footsteps.

The Kickstarter campaign will begin August 26th and those interested can visit the game’s website to suggest stretch goals for features the game could have. Furthermore, a prototype of the game will be playable at this year’s PAX Prime convention.

Details on the sequel are sparse at the moment but will be revealed when the Kickstarter goes live. Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke has explained in a blog post that the studio has invested some money for the game already but that the Kickstarter campaign will allow them to “make the game better.”

My Opinion:

A growing trend with Kickstarter is to launch a campaign not to fully fund a game but to help with funding already present. It makes some gamers nervous, including me, as these games don’t actually need crowdfunding in order to be made. At least Larian Studios is being upfront with the situation unlike some other games.
