The event starts as Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy, comes to the stage to talk about how he feels about the franchise he created, where it has been and his excitement of the future. The thing he’s most excited about is that Final Fantasy is returning to its challenging roots. He then presented to show off the new trailer. The trailer features a cover to Stand By Me by Florence + The Machine. When the game is released, there will also be a music app that will show you the songs that are in the game. It’s revealed that the car radio in the game will have selected music from previous Final Fantasy games.
After the trailer, the hosts of the event came on stage – Greg Miller, Tim Gettys with Dave Fennoy as a presenter. The first piece of news is a painting that Yoshitaka Amano recently has transferred to 3D. If you place the 3D art into a specific angle, it’ll reveal the Final Fantasy XV art logo.
Two new trailers were revealed that show off ways to play the game. One will allow you to go Chocobo riding as you can even drift along tight corners. The other is by car, which seems to be the main way to explore. They also showed off some of the combat as it abandons the turn based gameplay of the past for a new action based gameplay. After that trailer, they showed off another trailer that focuses on some of the areas you’ll get to explore. The range of the areas you’ll get to explore looks impressive. There were deserts, caves, cities to even blizzard ares. From the looks of it, this will be the biggest Final Fantasy game ever made.
After the trailer they revealed the names of the four main characters: Noctis, the character you play as, is the rightful King and is on a journey to reclaim his crown. To join his journey, there is Ignis his adviser, Gladio his bodyguard, and Prompto. Prompto is the only one in the group that isn’t royality. There is a five episode anime series that premiered that goes into the backstory of all these characters, Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV. Episode One is available now with the rest of the episodes appearing as the main game’s release draws near.
After the announcement of the anime mini-series, they also announced a brand new full featured CG movie called Kingsglaive. The movie will follow King Regis and Luna as they try to protect their Kingdom. This will be set during the events of the game and it’s got a talented cast behind it. Lena Headly (Dredd, Game of Thrones), Sean Bean (Silent Hill, Lord of the Rings), and Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad, Need for Speed) will be playing as Luna, King Regis and Nyx respectively. Square Enix and Audi has teamed up to create a one-of-a-kind car that is featured in the movie.
As Final Fantasy XV draws nearer, there will also be a mobile and windows game coming out called Justice Monster Five. This game will be one of the mini-games that is featured in the main game itself, the game will arrive soon.
One of the final reveals they announced was the Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo. The demo will be separate of the main game and any events that happened in the demo won’t happen in the main game. The demo is free and ready to download now. The demo is 3.797GBs for PlayStation 4 and the demo is also available now for free on Xbox One.
Then they revealed two collector’s editions of the game. The Deluxe Edition will have a steelbook case, Kingsglaive movie on Blu-ray and 3 pieces of DLC. That edition is $89.99.
The Ultimate Collector’s Edition will have the following:
- Hardcover 192 page artbook
- Brotherhood Anime series on an exclusive steelbook case

- Kingsglaive on Blu-ray
- 7 DLC
The Ultimate Collector’s Edition is only sold on the Square Enix Store and there is only 30,000 available worldwide. The price for that will be $269.99. Both editions including the regular edition is available to pre-order now.
The main event of the night was the release date and the game’s director finally revealed what Final Fantasy fans have been waiting ten years to see. The release date for Final Fantasy XV is September, 30th 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The event ended with one more trailer which seems to be a trailer that combined one extra surprise of the show. There are flying cars in Final Fantasy XV.
I’ve been waiting for this game since it was first announced and to see it finally have a legitimate release date is something exciting. I’m like Greg Miller on the franchise. I’ve played some of them and it didn’t click for me, but I know the importance of the franchise. After seeing what they showed off in the event has me excited. The fact that the leaks didn’t cover all the exciting news made this worth watching. I like Kinda Funny so seeing Greg Miller and Tim Gettys was great. Dave Fennoy was a highlight. At the end of the day, I can’t wait to play to play the full game and as always, as long as it doesn’t clash with other games I’m looking forward to, I might get this Day One.
