The game franchise Mirror’s Edge is poised to return in a big way. Not only is the long anticipated follow-up to the original game, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst set to release shortly, but the video game is going to be turned into a television series as well.
The news comes from Deadline, reporting that Endemol Shine Studios is adapting the property as a female-centered action series. President of Endemol Shine Studios, Sharon Hall, had this to say regarding the news.
“We clearly see Mirror’s Edge as a franchise for the global TV audience. It has a strong female protagonist, a wildly rabid fan base and a worldwide brand that Electronic Arts and EA DICE have done an amazing job establishing.”
The world of Mirror’s Edge actually makes a cool setting for an action series. The parkour like movement of Faith as she traverses through the city brings to mind the film District B13 which utilized parkour movement and fighting in a great way. For a tv series, I don’t think they should go Hardcore Henry style and film everything from a 1st person perspective, but instead use the viewpoint in certain scenes. I also would hope they would cast an Asian actress to portray Faith in the TV series. I could see someone like Maggie Q in the role, as she has experience in the action genre as the star of the underrated Nikita television series. Gemma Chan, Rinko Kikuchi, Zhang Ziyi, and Celina Jade all come to mind as possible choices as well.
