Volition has been quiet since its last Saints Row game — but today that silence ended with the reveal of their new IP Agents of Mayhem.
Agents of Mayhem is a third-person open-world action game set in the same universe as the Saints Row games.
“Featuring an original storyline, trademark over-the-top open-world gameplay, and the look-and-feel of a distinctive superhero cosmos, Agents of Mayhem is a true Volition game,” said publisher Deep Silver.
“This new IP is a part of the Saints Row universe, sharing certain story elements, symbolism, and design inspiration with the multi-million selling franchise. Building on the unique skill of the AAA studio to continuously surprise, endear, and engage players, Agents of Mayhem represents the culmination of over a decade of open world experience and creativity.”
As the trailer reveals, Agents of Mayhem is textbook Volition: urban setting, whimsical tone, and tons of chaos to be sprung in a big open-world. In Agents of Mayhem you play as a squad of three agents, each equipped with a unique skill set. While in the game you’re beating down on bad guys, it’s important to note the agents of M.A.Y.H.E.M aren’t necessarily token good guys either, hence the name.
Agents of Mayhem will release for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It currently has no release date.
My Opinion:
I’ve had a substantial chaos hole in my soul for quite awhile now — and while I would have preferred Saints Row 5 to fill that void, Agents of Mayhem will suffice. As gamers recently we have been collectively yearning for more new IPs, and while Agents of Mayhem may not stray away from Volition’s roots with Saints Row that much, it’s still a refreshing prospect.

I’ll wait until I see some actual gameplay before I say this is a buy.

Exactly my thoughts. Also the fact that they came out the gate with a cinematic trailer for a new IP also has left me pretty skeptical.
