The inspiration for game ideas can spring from a number of places. For Creative Director of Giant Squid Studios, Matt Nova, it was his love of diving that led to the creation of of Abzu.
Releasing August 2nd on PlayStation 4 and Steam, Abzu is an underwater adventure filled with mystery, exploration, and a multitude of colorful oceanic life. Much effort and care was put into modeling the aquatic life in the game. The fish were modeled after real fish to accurately display naturalistic movement and behavior.
Yet, the goal of Abzu is not to be a realistic scuba simulator. The movement of the diver is much more focused on creating a fun and vivid experience, than accurately simulating what the scuba experience is like in real life. Watch the developer diary below to see the beautiful underwater world of Abzu come to life.
My Opinion:
I’m still really impressed by the colorful ocean world of the game. If I didn’t already have such a large backlog of games, I would scoop Abzu up at launch.
