Satoru Iwata Re-Elected as President of Nintendo

Satoru Iwata was re-elected as the President of Nintendo during Friday’s Shareholders Meeting.

Iwata is likely relieved, as his approval rating among investors has been slowly dropping the last couple of years. It bottomed out at 77.3% last year. This gives him at least one more year to see what he can do to improve Nintendo’s fortunes.

This seems to indicate that while there are still some worries, things are looking up. Mario Kart 8 sold over two million copies in under a month, and a slew of new titles are on the horizon. Plus, the 3DS continues to sell well.

My Opinion:

This is good news! Iwata has been at the helm of Nintendo during good times and bad, so he knows a thing or two. Plus, stability is always a plus when there are issues to work through. There are ton of Wii U and 3DS games on the way this year and next, so I think most of the major concerns about Nintendo will disappear soon.
