Koei Tecmo’s popular fighting game franchise Dead or Alive is set to make its debut on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Japan.
News comes by way of producer Yosuke Hayashi, who made the announcement during a Japan Gamer’s Live event. Not many details were given, other than the fact the game will be titled Dead or Alive 5: Last Round and is scheduled for release in spring 2015. There is no word yet if the game will make its way to North America or other territories. Also, no details were given on the features of the game, such as updated visuals or modes available.
Accompanying the announcement was a brief trailer, which can be seen below, showcasing selected fighters like Marie Rose and Nyotengu.
My Opinion:
This is a bit of a surprising move considering the game originally released back in 2012 and was available for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. I could see it making more sense if the game was a console exclusive last generation. It is hard to imagine that any Japanese gamer who is interested in the game wouldn’t have checked it out by now. I did enjoy Dead or Alive 5 for the PS3 and I am hoping that Tecmo is working on the next iteration of the series. Dead or Alive gets flack sometimes for its emphasis on boobs, but I find the fighting mechanics simply fun to play. Nothing like executing a well timed reversal to defeat your opponent and claim victory.
