The announcement finally fulfills the hope of Nintendo fans, who have been long anticipating a remake of the beloved Nintendo 64 title. This will mark the first release of a 1st party Zelda game since the release of The Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds, which was released back in November 2013. Multiple references to Majora’s Mask can be found in A Link Between Worlds, which furthered the speculation that a remake was imminent for the 3DS.
While further details were scarce, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata did note they were focused on bringing the same classic gameplay, while making sure it is accessible to modern gamers.
Iwata also went on to praise Majora’s Mask for its darker take on the Zelda franchise, and how it left “scary and intense” memories in fan’s minds.
This announcement probably was a given at this point, but nonetheless I am very excited. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is hands down my all time favorite game. I never managed to get into Majora’s Mask; I think it was just too odd of a game for the age I was at. As I’ve grown up, I’ve really regretted not getting to experience this game, and really look forward to getting to do so for the first time next year.
