Microsoft has announced that a new Xbox One controller will be released in June.
The new controller, which has a headphone port on its base (#9 in the above image), will most likely be officially announced at E3, though it was announced early due to an update on the company’s Xbox support website. The description on the site includes a 3.5mm headphone port (standard size) on the base that is “only available on controllers released after June 2015.”
Though Microsoft announced its new controller early, it’s unclear if other fan-demanded features are included. However, there appear to be no changes to the shape of the new controller. Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that they would release an adapter that allows players to use the Xbox One controller with the Windows PC.
I don’t own an Xbox One (Team PlayStation!), but a headphone port at the bottom of the controller seems like a fantastic idea, much like the DualShock 4 controller. I have an iPhone 6 and I must say that having the headphones come out of the bottom instead of the top (like my old iPod Video) is really convenient. I’ll be checking out if Microsoft announces other features for this new controller at E3.
