Who said Electronic Arts was only about sports and massive blockbuster titles? In a bit of a departure from what gamers might expect from the company comes Unravel. Announced during the EA Conference at E3, Unravel is a physics-based puzzle platformer from Swedish developer Coldwood Interactive. While no release date was given, the game is scheduled for a digital release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Unravel stars Yarny, a cute character composed of a single thread of red yarn which unravels as he traverses a human world based on Northern Scandinavia. In addition to various landscapes and weather, Yarny must contend with dangerous animals on his journey as glimpsed from the trailer.
What exactly does Yarny’s journey entail? Watch the trailer below and find out if the answer is something you want to unravel.
This was a pleasant surprise from EA. It is always good to see a new IP and a company as big as they are can afford to take risks on something unique. I really like the art style and the fact Unravel is set in a real world. The various uses of yarn hold a lot of creative potential and the various tones captured in the trailer are impressive.
