All powerful rings, ogre armies, screeching dragons, the great deceiver Sauron- Yes, it is time to return to Middle-earth with the announcement of Middle-earth: Shadow of War.

Warner Bros. officially announced the follow-up to 2014’s Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor which once again sees Talion and Celebrimbor waging war against Sauron and his dark army. Shadow of War releases August 22nd in North America and August 25th in Europe.  Monolith Productions returns to develop the sequel which sees an expansion of everything that made the first game great, especially the Nemesis System.

The official plot description can be seen below.

“In Middle-earth: Shadow of War, players wield a new Ring of Power and confront the deadliest of enemies, including Sauron and his Nazgul, in a monumental battle for Middle-earth. The open-world action-adventure game is brought to life through the expansion of the award-winning Nemesis System. The robust personalization from the first game is now applied to the entire world where the environments and characters are all shaped by player actions and decisions, creating a personal world unique to every gameplay experience.”

Shadow of War is launching for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows 10, and Steam. Additionally, Microsoft announced it is a part of the Xbox Play Anywhere Program and will be coming to Project Scorpio this holiday season. Check out the announcement trailer below and look for gameplay footage on March 8th.

My Opinion:

I never played the first game, but I remember it being one of the first standout titles for this console generation. The Nemesis System in particular received a lot of praise and this new game looks to expand on it greatly. I look forward to the gameplay footage next week.
