Star Wars Celebration 2017 has been a juggernaut of announcements. First a teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi film, then the confirmation of Star Wars: Rebel’s final season, and now we have a slew of Star Wars Battlefront II news!
Unlike the first current-gen iteration, Star Wars Battlefront II will include a single-player campaign. The journey begins in the 30 years between the destruction of Death Star II through the uprising of the First Order. In this canon story, players are introduced to Iden Versio, the leader of the Inferno Squad, an elite special forces unit of the Empire.
Douglas Reilly, Senior Direct, Digital & Franchise Management says:
“EA has assembled an incredible set of developers to create a Star Wars gaming experience unlike anything fans have ever experienced. Star Wars Battlefront II will offer everything players loved about the last installment, and adds new modes that we know the fans want, including an entirely new story developed in partnership with Lucasfilm.”
In addition to the new campaign, multiplayer gameplay will be a true battle of the ages – taking players to iconic locations from the prequel, classic, and new trilogy. Yavin 4’s jungle canopies, the spaceport town of Mos Eisley, and Starkiller Base, are all confirmed. Heroes Yoda, Darth Maul, Rey, and Kylo Ren have also been confirmed. Players can also customize their standard characters, a new feature, throughout the multiplayer experience. Space fights will also be an emphasis in multiplayer, cited, according to EA as “the most requested fan mode.”
“We wanted to create a campaign that told a story we haven’t seen before in Star Wars,” says Mark Thompson, Game Director at Motive Studios. “It was important for us to tell a new authentic story, one that gives players a brand-new perspective. By putting players in the boots of an elite member of the Imperial forces, we can show them what the battle was like from the other side.”
Players who pre-order Star Wars Battlefront II will grab skins of Kylo Ren and Rey from Star Wars: The Last Jedi as well as skins for the Millennium Falcon and a new First Order ship. Players who decide to purchase Star Wars Battlefront II: Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition will have access to the pre-order content, access to the elite troopers, several trooper upgrades, and access to the game up to three days early.
Star Wars Battlefront II will release on November 17, 2017 worldwide for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Players who get Star Wars Battlefront II: Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition can begin gameplay starting on November 14th, or through the Play First Trials on EA Access and Origin Access starting November 9th.
My Opinion:
MY BODY IS READY. In-game footage looks stunning, new single-player campaign is intriguing, and endless possibilities of multiplayer has me counting down the days until November 14th!
