The announcement came this morning via the PlayStation Blog, where Square Enix Community Manager Dan Seto revealed that it will officially launch in North America in 2015 exclusively for PlayStation 4.  He also revealed that it will be available as both a boxed retail game and a digital download on the PlayStation Store.

Dragon Quest Heroes marks the first time in the franchise’s history that it will be a full action-RPG.  It also marks the first time in its history that it is being developed by ω-Force (Omega Force) from KOEI TECMO.

Seto describes the game on the PlayStation Blog as:

In Dragon Quest Heroes, the protagonists must rise up against insurmountable odds, challenging swarms of enemies and conquering gigantic monsters in an exhilarating action game. Filled with characters and monsters designed by world-renowned artist Akira Toriyama, Dragon Quest Heroes is brought to PS4 in beautiful HD.

Both Yuji Horii, the general director and creator of Dragon Quest, and Koichi Sugiyama, the composer closely tied to the series since its first installment, are closely involved in bringing this title to life.

As of this writing, the specific release date has not been revealed, but you can expect Dragon Quest Heroes to officially launch on PlayStation 4 consoles later this year.

My Opinion:

It takes a lot for me to get excited about an Omega Force game.  I’ve never been one to enjoy the Dynasty Warriors series.  Last year I got a little excited for Hyrule Warriors, but even then it never really grabbed me.  Dragon Quest Heroes, however, has my full attention.  I absolutely love Square Enix and their IP, from Final Fantasy to Dragon Quest, to the even more obscure ones like Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean.  I simply adore them and can’t wait to play this. I am glad to see that Square Enix finally decided to bring it to the West.
