A New PlayStation Dragon Quest Announcement Upcoming

Yuji Horri, creator of Dragon Quest, teased a potential announcement regarding a new Dragon Quest game on PlayStation.

In a recent interview with Ruliweb, Yuji Horri discussed the possibility of Dragon Quest returning to PlayStation platforms stating,

“While I can’t say anything about it for now, we just may announce something about that in the near future.”

In late 2014, Level-5 claimed they would reveal a new PlayStation 4 game at E3. The safe choice is a sequel to the much-loved Ni No Kuni, but perhaps it’s a new addition to the Dragon Quest series?

One would have to go all the way back to 2005 to find the last time a Dragon Quest game made its way onto PlayStation platforms. That game was Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King. It originally released on the PlayStation 2 but has since seen a mobile release and there is an upcoming 3DS version.

In related news, Dragon Quest Heroes, a unique spinoff that sees the classic Dragon Quest turn-based structure replaced by a full-fledged action-RPG, is planned for release later this year.

My Opinion:

I hope E3 contains a huge Dragon Quest announcement. As much as I would love a remaster of Dragon Quest VIII on the PlayStation 4, it is probably better to get a new installment so recent players can hop on board. Dragon Quest Heroes seems like a unique reminder of the timeless Dragon Quest characters but it’s not what first attracted me to the series.
