Square Enix has revealed that Rise of the Tomb Raider won’t simply be coming to the PlayStation 4 in form of the game that came to Xbox One last year, but rather will be shipping as Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration.

Square Enix went on to reveal that when they were planning the PS4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider, the emphasis was on outdoing anything they had done before in previous Definitive Editions.

“A mere “Game of the Year” wouldn’t satisfy us, or our fans. We knew that our PlayStation community both deserved and demanded more than that. So we’re working with our long-time partner Nixxes Software to make this version truly special,” said Co-head of Crystal Dynamics Scot Amos.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration will contain a completely new story chapter entitled Blood Ties, which will let you explore the long requested Croft Manor and unlock its mysteries in a new story mode, then defend it against an undead invasion in “Lara’s Nightmare.”

Amos added, “ The Manor also offered a great opportunity for us to investigate the possibilities with cutting edge VR technology. So for the first time in franchise history, you’ll be able to play “Blood Ties” in first-person through Lara’s eyes!”

It’s important to note, while Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration will be available on Xbox One and PC, the VR support will not, as it will be exclusive to PlayStation VR.

The new version will also be adding a new online co-op expansion to Endurance mode. The new expansion will allow you and a friend to team up and raid tombs as well as battle for the longest survival run/leaderboard supremacy.

To celebrate Tomb Raider releases through the years,  a special card pack will allow you to replay the main story with five classic Lara models, and a re-envisioned version of the cold-weather outfit and the Hailstorm pistol that featured in Tomb Raider III.

Lastly, for hardcore fans, Square Enix has added a “brutal” new “Extreme Survivor” setting, which increases the difficult and strips out all of the checkpoints. The only way you will be able to to save your game is by foraging enough resources to light campfires

As standard, all of the game’s previous DLC will also be bundled in. Additionally, current Rise of the Tomb Raider season pass holders on Xbox One and PC will receive this new content for free. It will cost $59.99

My Opinion:

Now, this is a GOTY edition done right.
