The gaming community was set aflame when Microsoft revealed Rise of the Tomb Raider would be exclusive to Xbox One and Xbox 360 during their Gamescom press conference, but according to Phil Spencer (head of Xbox), Lara Croft’s new adventure is a timed exclusive.
As of now, Rise of the Tomb Raider is set to release Holiday 2015 exclusively for Xbox consoles.
“What they do with the franchise in the long run is not mine. I don’t control it. So all I can talk about is the deal I have,” Phil Spencer said.
Spencer did not reveal the duration or terms of the deal Xbox has with Square Enix, but once the deal expires, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics could release it on other platforms.
In a conversation with Eurogamer, Phil Spencer compares the deal to Microsoft’s short term affiliations with Capcom and Crytek for Dead Rising 3 and Ryse.
Rise of the Tomb Raider was revealed at E3 and is expected to release Holiday 2015 for Xbox One and Xbox 360.
My Opinion:
It is a shame that PlayStation owners may not get the chance to play Rise of the Tomb Raider, especially considering how well received the the reboot was. However I am almost certain that we will see this on PC and PlayStation 4 eventually as a game of the year or definitive edition.

Man, if the ‘duration’ of this exclusivity turns out to be like ten years, the internet will break
